Lincoln Park Zoo's newest baby rhino, Hazina, made her first public appearance at Lincoln Park Zoo on Wednesday morning. The zoo's enclosure was opened to zoo members and the media, but it took nearly five hours before the nearly 6-week-old calf stepped outdoors for the first time. Despite the crowd's excitement, the calf was seen following closely by her mother, Kapuki. Alice St. Clair, a member of the zoo for nearly 10 years, waited 20 minutes before Hazina made her public debut. Cassy Kutilek, the zoo’s curator of large mammals and carnivores, described the young rhino as “a little bit of a spitfire” who has been acclimating herself to zookeepers and exploring food options.
