Sierra Club San Diego has criticized the city's proposed Fairmount Avenue fire station, stating that it is a good project in the wrong place and violates California law. The draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) focuses on only one alternative location on Home Avenue, largely based on outdated information and does not adequately evaluate other potential sites. The site chosen comes with serious environmental concerns, including a sensitive canyon and potential risks to biological resources, stormwater systems, and cultural resources. The report also fails to provide basic comparative data on potential tradeoffs and potential response times across sites. Sierra Club urges the city of San Diego to review a revised Draft Environmental Impact report that includes a fair evaluation of multiple feasible sites.
