Syd Ross, a glitch artist and cinematic raver known for his contributions to Chicago’s creative avant-garde, has been making a significant contribution to the city since moving in in 2018. For a decade, Ross has been experimenting with the aesthetic and aesthetic of glitch art, particularly in music. They moved to Chicago due to the presence of local artists working in glitch. They began combining glitch video and music via an online show called The Omnia Sol Art Show, and became a regular at DADS (Digital Art Demo Space), eventually booking live video for electronic musicians. In 2023, they started grad school at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, aiming to elevate the influence of the VJ by cultivating what they call the “cinematic rave” concept. They produce a show for CAN TV called Heavy Shell TV, which documents their creative experiments and gives a platform to other groundbreaking electronic audio and video artists. They also create audiovisual hybrid projects, most recently the four-song EP Head of Mars.
