Looking at Lou Holtz’s ties to Ohio

Lou Holtz, a legendary football coach, passed away at the age of 89 this month. Holtz was born in West Virginia but was raised in East Liverpool, Ohio, where he attended St. Aloysius grade school. His playing career ended during a spring practice game at Kent State University, where a knee injury led to a career-ending knee injury a year before graduation. He began his coaching career with various assistant and head coaching roles at prominent collegiate programs, including Ohio State during its 1968 undefeated national championship season. He also had successful roles at North Carolina State, New York Jets, University of Arkansas and University of Minnesota.
