The partial government shutdown continues, with thousands of TSA workers potentially receiving a paycheck this week. Border czar Tom Homan has proposed an immediate plan to pay these workers, but this is not a solution but a temporary solution. The issue of payouts is also a significant issue, as Congress continues to leave Washington without a deal. Despite an executive action by President Trump to pay TSA using funds from the One Big Beautiful Bill, this does not immediately address the issue. The Senate passed a bill that would fund most of the Department of Homeland Security but leave out funds for ICE and Border Patrol, but House Republicans quickly rejected this bill. Meanwhile, nearly 500 TSA officers have reportedly quit since mid-February. This is not just a partisan fight between Democrats and Republicans, but also a fracture within the Republican Party itself.
