Walz Signs First 4 Laws Passed In 2026 — One Ends A State Holiday

The first four laws of the 2026 legislative session have been signed by Minnesota's Governor, Tim Walz, regarding school bus safety, cannabis regulation, housing support, and the repeal of Cesar Chavez Day. The bills were unanimously supported by both the House and Senate. One law allows lower-potency hemp edible products to continue being tested at out-of-state labs through May 31, 2027, and another directs $9 million from the state’s Strengthen Supportive Housing Program to recipients of the federal Continuum of Care Program. The fourth bill, HF 4541, removes the state law recognizing Cesar Chantel, and replaces it with the designation of Farmworkers Day.
