A female whale was found dead on the Long Beach Peninsula near Ocean Park, Washington, on Friday and is the 18th dead gray whale found in Washington this year. Scientists from the Cascadia Research Collective, Portland State University, and the Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory conducted a necropsy. Preliminary findings showed that the whale was malnourished and likely to have suffered from trauma. This increase in deaths raises questions about the availability of food in the Arctic.
