A trio of trustees, Beth Augustine, Glenn Thompson and Shawana McGee, proposed a task force to address the issue of affordable housing in La Grange, which has seen sharp increases in housing prices and is making it harder for empty nesters, young professionals and local workers to afford housing locally. The task force was recommended in a 2024 board-approved, long-term development plan. However, one trustee accused President Mark Kuchler of attempting to stop the process. Kuchlers defended the village, stating that the village has done so far as a leader in the western suburbs with 13 percent of affordable homes. Trustee Lou Gale also questioned the number of members on the task force and how they would be appointed. Augustine responded by suggesting that the task Force should consider incentives for developers to include affordable units, which could include zoning exceptions. Trustees agreed to have staff come up with a plan to present it at a meeting next month.
