The Indiana Senate passed a bill that could criminalize homelessness in the state. The General Assembly has passed the bill, which defines camping on public property as a misdemeanor under certain conditions. While some argue this targets those dealing with HOMELESSness, others argue it guides them to resources such as public safety, public access, and case management. However, state Senator ERIC COOK argues this could save lives like a homeless man who froze to death ten years ago. Critics argue this could harm the homeless and lead to more aggressive tactics towards evictions. One executive director, Jim Moon, argues that state resources should be used for supportive, transitional, and affordable housing.
