Aaryan Balani, a 14-year-old California 8th grader, has developed an AI-powered device, EYEVA, to detect and potentially treat strabismus, a condition known as crossed eyes. The device alerts the wearer when their eye begins to wander, and could potentially help those with this condition permanently retrain them. Balani developed the device with a 3D printer, small cameras, and AI. The invention received top honors at the Orange County Science & Engineering Fair in March and Balani plans to work towards clinical trials and eventually receive approval from the Food and Drug Administration.
