Trial of 20-year-old Terrell Anthony Ranzy, accused of murdering St. Olaf College football player Matthew Lee in South St. Paul last year began after he was threatened by another man at gunpoint, according to his defense attorney. Ranzy allegedly started shooting after Keith Brian Woodson Cox Jr., 21, pulled out a gun and said he was being robbed. Lee was hit twice and died at the scene of the shooting. Woodson Jones Jr., who returned gunfire, survived and is charged with attempted first-degree aggravated robbery for his role in the shootout. The charges against Ranzy have been dropped to a bench trial.
