The Hidden Gazebo Eatery, a backyard oasis in Lemon Grove, San Diego, serves home-cooked Egyptian meals. Chef Noura Bishay and her mother, Samia Khair, opened the restaurant in January, cooking a seven-course dinner out of their home. The food is served using Egyptian staples like fava beans, falafel, lamb, and more, and guests are treated like family. The 30-seat restaurant is described as a Microenterprise Home Kitchen Operation (MEHKO). The pair received financial help from a grant through Cook Alliance, a nonprofit supporting culinary small businesses in California. The restaurant is scheduled to open in June and is set to host a comedy brunch on Mother's Day and Father's Day.
