Citizen-led testing in Cahokia Heights detects E. coli in drinking water

A citizen-led effort to test drinking water in Cahokia Heights, Illinois, has raised concerns among residents after some samples tested positive for E. coli. The nonprofit Equity Legal Services led the water-testing program, which collected 118 samples from 23 homes over seven months. The samples tested for total coliforms, an indication of potential issues, and 8 for the presence of feces. The company confirmed that its water treatment plant in East St. Louis serves approximately 20% of the city's homes and businesses, serving an additional 1400 metered customers.
