Former Tulsa mayor, homicide detective, call for accountability from TPD
Published on March 4, 2026.
Henry Jamerson was convicted of rape in 1991 and received a $26,250,000 settlement from the city of Tulsa following his wrongful conviction. His lawyer, Dan Smolen, uncovered a web of alleged deception by the police department, including the chief of police. Smolen claims that TPD knew about the DNA evidence from Jamerson's case and denied it to be tested multiple times. Former Tulsa Mayor Terry Young and Homicide Detective Mike Huff have called for an independent external review of the case. The settlement was approved by the Tulsa City Council and was the largest in the city's history. However, News Channel 8 asked the entire city council to comment on the matter.
