The Port of Long Beach and The Wonderful Company have signed an agreement to establish a zero-emission trucking route from the Central Valley to the San Pedro Bay, a move intended to counter shoreline air pollution from the twin seaports and highways used to transport goods. The agreement was signed alongside The Wonderful company's real estate arm, Lincoln Transportation Services, and The Port's CEO Noel Hacegaba. Despite the investment, this investment pales in comparison to industry's reliance on fossil fuels. Over 18,000 trucks are registered to move cargo through the city seaport, mostly fueled by diesel. The lack of charging stations along truck routes is cited as a key barrier to conversion.
