Jennifer Macdonel, a mother of 13-year-old Claire Macdonal, was attacked by a barracuda during a family vacation in Turks and Caicos on July 19. The attack occurred on the first day of the family's trip and left Claire with severe injuries to her hand. An orthopedic surgeon spent nearly five hours treating Claire's hand, including three hours debriding the wounds to remove damaged tissue and reduce the risk of infection before she could undergo tendon repair back home. Despite the ordeal, Claire's love for the ocean remains and she plans to study marine biology to better understand marine animals.
