Tommy Thompson, a treasure hunter who spent years in prison for refusing to disclose the location of 500 missing gold coins from the 1857 Ship of Gold, has been released. Thompson discovered the shipwreck off the coast of South Carolina in 1988 and was sent to prison in 2015 after failing to disclose its location. He is now claiming that the coins, worth $2.5 million, were given to a trust in Belize and that the $50 million they purchased was used for legal expenses and bank loans.
