Fusion power, a form of nuclear reaction that powers the sun, has attracted investors due to its potential to upend trillion-dollar markets. The technology has been driven by advances in advanced computer chips, AI, and high-temperature superconducting magnets. Companies like Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS), TAE Technologies, and Helion have raised over $100 million in recent years. CFS has raised about a third of all private capital invested in fusion companies so far, bringing its total raised to nearly $3 billion. The company is currently building Sparc, its first-of-a-kind power plant in Massachusetts. Helion plans to produce electricity from its reactor in 2028.
