The Global Investigative Journalism Network (THR) has tested a series of social media posts that appear to be AI-generated content, highlighting the difficulty of detecting these fake content. The team found 10 posts on various accounts, ranging from lifestyle tips to wartime disasters, which are often created by AI technology. These false claims about a U.S. military base being bombed in the Middle East could pose a significant challenge as many social media platforms are flooded with AI content. While early AI dupes can be detected by obvious mistakes, they are becoming almost impossible to discern. The Global Investigative Journal Network suggests that methods of detection that worked a few years ago are now obsolete. The report also highlights an increase in videos purporting to show attacks on the Mideast, but also warns against potential giveaways.
