Merrill Kelly receives back injection; Corbin Carroll gives update

Right-hander Merrill Kelly received an injection last week to treat his tight back and remains hopeful that he can avoid the injured list to the start of the season. Kelly, who was supposed to be the club's Opening Day starter, is dealing with intercostal nerve irritation and may start in the second series against the Detroit Tigers on April 1. Corbin Carroll, who had surgery to remove a broken right hamate on February 11, is feeling confident about his chances of being ready for Opening Day.
