St. John's basketball team won 67-65 over No. 4 Kansas in the second-round of March Madness, reaching the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1999. Sophomore Ian Jackson played a significant role in the win, scoring 10 points in 20 minutes off the bench and defending well against Kansas' potential No. 1 NBA draft pick Darryn Peterson. The win marks St. John’s first time they have reached the Sweet Sixes since 1999 and the fifth Division I coach to win 30 games 10 different times. The team's performance was praised by Jackson as a special gift to the team and its coach, Rick Pitino.
