Neuroscientist Erik Hoel, founder of Bicameral Labs, has developed a system that would stress-test all of the competing theories using substitution arguments to find contradictions in systems that exhibit the same behavior but have different internal structures. The idea is to use different types of brains, including AI, as testbeds. However, another scientist suggests this may not fully understand the "hard" problem of consciousness. Hoel believes that any theory that cannot make predictions, survive testing, or risk failure, will be cut. He also plans to run stress tests across brains, animals, neural networks, and AI systems. The 'consciousness-theory-killing machine' could eliminate hundreds of rival theories.
