A decision by the Missouri Supreme Court has upheld a Republican-backed congressional district map that could give Republicans a stronger chance to win a KC-area seat in 2026. The court stated that the constitution requires redistricting after each census but does not prohibit lawmakers from doing it more often. The map was redrew in a mid-decade move, which led to lawsuits and splitting KC into three districts. Critics argue that this move was a cheap way to win elections that Republicans would otherwise lose. However, Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway defended the map, calling it a win. The People Not Politicians - Missouri campaign has stated that this ruling will not change its campaign to block the map.
