New hunting and finishing laws were passed in the 2025 Legislative session, along with adopted regulations by the Montana Fish and Wildlife Commission. The biggest change is the introduction of the "License Ambassador Program", which allows businesses to provide a dedicated station for those seeking to purchase licenses. The program aims to reduce administrative costs and allow new businesses to sell licenses. Not all businesses that previously sold licenses now sell licenses, FWP has provided a list of participating businesses. The online system for purchasing permits has not significantly changed, with an app for storing tags and licences. Deer regulations have also seen changes, with residents limited to three licenses and non-residents limited to one, unless they draw a combo license. There have been significant changes to fees surrounding birds, with non-resident base hunting license fees increasing from $15 to $50.
