The Senate confirmed Markwayne Mullin to replace Kristi Noem as Homeland Security secretary, replacing Noem, in a 54-45 vote. This follows a heated hearing where Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) claimed Mullin was too angry for the promotion. Only two Democrats, Sens. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) and Martin Heinrich (D) supported Mullin, along with 52 Republicans. Mullin will now lead over 250,000 federal law enforcement officers at a department that has been shut down for 37 days due to Democratic opposition. Despite criticism of Immigration and Customs Enforcement tactics and use of taxpayer funds for a $220 million ad campaign starring herself, even some Republicans have been critical of the department.
