The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has issued a permit for One Carbon Partnership to store and inject carbon dioxide underground in eastern Randolph County, Indiana. The project will be located at the Cardinal Ethanol facility near Union City and the Ohio-Indiana border. The permit allows for the construction of a well to permanently store carbon dioxide, a process known as carbon sequestration. The partnership is authorized to inject up to 450,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually and over 30 years, the total amount of injected carbon is expected to reach 13.5 million metric tons. The site is located in a deep formation between 3,100 and 3,659 feet beneath the surface.
