Milwaukee County officials have signed a resolution opposing President Donald Trump's climate policy, stating that they will take the threat of climate change seriously. The resolution reiterates the county's support for the goals of the 2015 Paris climate agreement, which requires net-zero fossil fuel emissions by 2050. This is the second time in less than a decade that county policymakers have reaffirmed the commitment. The county has made significant progress toward emission reduction goals, including a 50% reduction in carbon emissions from 2005 by 2030 and a 46% reduction by 2023. However, buildings still account for approximately 65% of all county emissions. To achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, the county will likely need to spend more than $400 million over the next 25 years.
