A crowd of 75 people gathered in downtown Newark, New Jersey, to protest against an illegal war on Iran by the United States and Israel, claiming it benefits only wealthy elites. The event was led by the ANSWER Coalition, a left-leaning group that has advocated for Palestinians in Gaza and is an affiliate of the Party for Socialism and Liberation. The coalition also organized rallies in over 60 other cities across the country, including New York, Chicago, New Orleans, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and dozens in between. Demonstrators claimed that the airstrikes that began Saturday were an unprovoked attack that violated international norms and the authority of U.S. federal lawmakers to approve military intervention. Other groups represented included the Newark-based People’s Organization for Progress and the New York City-New Jersey Black Alliance for Peace.
