UK assisted dying bill fails after delays but advocates vow to try again

A UK bill to legalise assisted dying for terminally ill people has failed due to efforts by unelected lawmakers to delay its passage through Parliament. The Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill faced a parliamentary quagmire with over 1,200 bill amendments tabled by appointed lawmakers in the House of Lords. The bill, which proposed legalising euthanasia for adults with less than six months to live who had expressed a wish to die, was passed by lawmakers in Parliament in June. Over 200 lawmakers signed a letter blaming the bill's failure on "deliberate delaying tactics pursued by a minority of peers opposed to its passage". However, campaigners in favour of the bill pledged to continue fighting.
