Dominant Energy has filed for a potential rate hike to help clean up coal ash at four of its former coal-fired power plants, including the former Chesapeake Energy Center. The company anticipates an increase of 53 cents to a residential customer who would use 1,000 kilowatt hours, which would equate to a 30% increase of the rate per kilowhour charged under the Rider CCR. The financial details of the increase are not disclosed. The removal of all the coal ash from these plants is estimated to cost $624 million. The State Corporation Commission will have the final say on the rate increase.
