Hochul insists she’s done raising taxes — but unions and lefties want more

New York City Gov. Kathy Hochul has insisted that she is done raising taxes, despite unions and lefties clamoring for more. This comes as a group of left-wing groups write to legislative leaders urging them to maintain the tradition of a fairer tax system, not to the billionaire donors who benefit from status quo. The new pied-à-terre tax, which she hopes to raise $500 million a year to cover a $5.4 billion budget gap, was introduced last week and she also contributed $1.5 billion to help bail out the city and billions in new spending for child care programs. However, Hochil insists she is not planning to introduce new taxes and leaves the door open to other proposals that could lower costs.
