Give Kids The World, a foundation that provides cost-free vacations to children with critical illnesses and their families, is celebrating its 40th anniversary. Founder Henri Landwirth, who survived concentration camps and a forced march as a child, was inspired by the desire of a young girl who wanted to meet Mickey Mouse. The foundation's motto, "Where Happiness Inspires Hope," is also its story. In 1986, Henri began providing complimentary rooms to families whose "Wish" was to bring their child with life-threatening illness to Orlando. The concept of the Give KidsThe World Village was born. In 1989, the 15-acre Village opened, with a fairytale theme throughout its 16 condominium-style villas and a Gingerbread House restaurant. Today, the Village is a 166-villa fantasy wonderland.
