U.S. Rep. Morgan McGarvey has called for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to permanently ground the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 following the crash of UPS Flight 2976 in Louisville, citing a structural failure that may have implications on the aircraft's safety. He highlighted the model's long-documented history of mechanical issues and cited at least 10 hull-loss accidents since its introduction in 1990. The National Transportation Safety Board is set to hold a two-day hearing on May 19-20 as part of its investigation into the crash.
