The Iranian women saved from execution by President Donald Trump are both real and AI-manipulated. The Iranian state news agency, Mizan, called Trump a liar and claimed that some of the women had already been released and others were facing prison time but not execution. The X account for the Iranian embassy in South Africa also generated its own set of eight women. However, Mahsa Alimardani, associate director of the Technology Threats & Opportunities program at WITNESS, confirmed that six of these women were confirmed to have received a death sentence issued by the Tehran Revolutionary Court for "operational action for the hostile government of the United States and hostile groups". The six verified women participated in protests against the government in January.
