The week will be marked by showers on Monday, followed by potentially triple digit temperatures on Mother's Day, possibly the first time of the year on the year. High temperatures in the Valley peaked on Saturday near 90, while temperatures in other areas dropped by 25 degrees in just two days. The American Lung Association and San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District have released their annual reports, which indicate that our air quality is poor, with strong high pressure overhead sending temperatures through the roof and preventing good ventilation. This high pressure also acts like a roof to the atmosphere and prevents good ventilation, leading to worsens air quality. However, clean air is vital for good health and can exacerbate asthma, COPD, flu, pneumonia, heart disease, hypertension, and rheumatic fever, especially in those over 65. Despite improvements in air quality, the report acknowledges that despite the population has grown and despite more cars on the road, there is still a long way to go before it could ever be considered 'healthy'. The report focuses on two main pollutants: Ozone and Particulate Matter.
