The Florida Senate has passed legislation requiring citizenship verification for all registered voters, a central element of President Donald Trump's demands for sweeping election-law changes. The bill would restrict the types of IDs voters can use at the polls, including student IDs and retirement center IDs. However, driver's licenses, state ID cards, military ID and licenses to carry concealed weapons would still be accepted as proof of voter identity. Critics argue that this could cause chaos for the voting public and potentially prevent significant numbers of citizens from voting. The legislation was delayed to avoid going into effect on July 1 before the Aug. 18 primary and months before the Nov. 3 general election. The sponsor, state Sen. Erin Grall, stated that the citizenship verification process would be invisible to most people.
