Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of The Legend of Zelda, has described the game as Nintendo's answer to "traditional RPGs," with the player being able to interact with the game world through the use of a controller and a simple mapping system. The game was released for the Famicom Disk System in Japan, which allowed it to be more expansive than the simple sidescroller. However, the team was cautious about the obtious nature of the game, particularly in its early stages. Despite this, Nintendo's Breath of the Wild would later incorporate elements from the open-world formula of the original game.
