IAIA transition shows strength of higher education in Santa Fe

Shelley Lowe, the president of the Institute of American Indian Indian Arts (IAIA), has been inaugurated as president for the college, replacing Robert Martin. This comes amidst a period of transition for the institution, which also includes St. John’s College and the Institute for American Indian Arts. Lowe, a graduate of the University of Arizona, has previously served as executive director of the Harvard University Native American Program and administrative and teaching positions at Yale University. She will be an excellent steward of the IAIA legacy, having previously held administrative and teacher positions at both Yale and Harvard University. The Institute ofAmerican Indian Arts was founded in the 1960s and has produced notable writers and artists such as T.C. Cannon, Fritz Scholder, Linda Lomahaftewa, Earl Biss and Roxanne Swentzell.
