A discharge petition for a resolution that would require the Trump administration to extend temporary legal protections for migrants from Haiti has received enough signatures to force a vote on the House floor. The petition, signed by Rep. Marie Gleusenkamp Perez (D-Wash), secured support from four Republicans. The resolution would direct the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to designate Haiti for temporary protected status (TPS) until January 20, 2029. The Trump administration has sought to revoke TPS for Haitian nationals, arguing that conditions in Haiti no longer justified the designation. The case is now headed to the Supreme Court, where justices have agreed to take up the Haiti case and a similar case involving Syria's TPS designation.
