Florida State Attorney General, James Uthmeier, has called for the NFL's Rooney Rule, which governs the hiring of certain team executives and coaches, to be abolished. The rule requires teams to have at least two interviews with minorities in high-profile positions before making a hiring decision. Uthalmeier accused the NFL of being "blatant race and sex discrimination" and "illegal". He also demanded that the league would no longer enforce the rule on teams in Florida by May 1, 2026. The Florida Civil Rights Act prohibits employers from discriminating based on race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy, national origin, age, handicap, or marital status in relation to those characteristics.
