Several popular Phoenix-area hiking trails will be restricted due to extreme heat, with some trails closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., including those from South Mountain Park and Preserve. The City of Phoenix announced that for safety reasons, some trails will close from March 19-22. The extreme heat wave is expected to hit the Phoenix area on Tuesday through Thursday, with high temperatures expected to reach 105-106 on Thursday through Saturday and Sunday. Firefighters have already rescued several hikers suffering from heat exhaustion, including a woman who was feeling dizzy due to heat, and a man feeling overheated at Piestewa Peak.
