Nearly 500 airport security officers have resigned since the start of the partial government shutdown in February, causing long lines that have been causing significant disruption to airport operations. The Department of Homeland Security has warned that it may be forced to close smaller airports if staffing issues worsen. Over 11% of the 3,000 remaining TSA officers did not show up for work on Wednesday.
