IRGC says Iran in ‘complete control’ of Strait of Hormuz amid Trump threats
Published on March 4, 2026.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed it maintains full control of the Strait of Hormuz, where about a fifth of the world's oil is shipped through. This is in response to threats from US President Donald Trump that he may deploy the navy to escort tankers. The IRGC stated that it is impossible for ships to pass through the strait and that over 10 oil tankers have been targeted. The US-Israeli war on Iran is disrupting the global supply chain, with shipping and planes carrying air cargo grounded due to the closure of airspace in the Middle East. Despite Iran's dominance, Brent crude prices have risen to over $82 a barrel, up more than 13 percent since the start of the conflict.
