A federal appeals court has placed temporary holds on orders by two Oregon judges that restrict federal use of force outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement building in Portland. The 9th U.N. Circuit Court of Appeals issued an emergency hold on the March 6 order by U..S., which restricted federal officers from using tear gas or other chemicals near the building. The court also issued an immediate hold on a broader order by District Michael J. Simon that prohibited federal police from using indiscriminate force against protesters and journalists outside the ICE building. A hearing will be held on April 7 to hear the government's attempts to place more lasting holds on the orders.
