Pakistan has increased its consumer prices for diesel and petrol by over 50%, its second increase in less than a month. The price of diesel will be increased by over 55% to 520.35 rupees ($1.88) per litre, and petrol will be raised by around 55%. This decision is expected to lead to higher inflation and a decrease in Pakistan's population. The country's petroleum minister, Ali Pervaiz Malik, stated that the increase was inevitable due to rising global oil prices. He also announced subsidies aimed at relief to small farmers, motorcyclists and intercity transportation of goods and passengers.
