A recent attempted theft at Woodlawn Celestial Gardens Cemetery in Compton, California, resulted in three guard dogs being stabbed during an attempt to steal equipment and remove metal headstones. The owner, Celestina Bishop, has been putting the historic cemetery up for sale following a series of incidents dating back several years, including vandalism and thefts of headstones and metal plaques. This incident resulted in the loss of one of the guard dogs. The cemetery, which houses 18 Civil War veterans and is a Los Angeles County landmark, has also been targeted by vandals, trespassing, and verbal attacks from members of the community. The property has been on the market for sale as of April 11, 2026.
