A surfboard and a bystander's quick thinking saved a hypothermic teenager who fell through the ice at a lake in Alaska on April 19. The Alaska Department of Public Safety responded to reports of the teen falling into the icy water at Island Lake, located just north of the town of Nikiski, Alaska. The rescue came after Cassie Keplinger saw two teens enter the area's public lake access and ran towards an island in the lake. State Trooper Anthony Will and his wife Zach quickly responded to the scene and managed to pull the teen to shore. The teen was transported to a local hospital and received treatment for symptoms of hypothermia.
