Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has dismissed claims that the state is in a 'debt trap', stating that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government has achieved unprecedented economic growth over the last decade despite financial constraints, natural disasters, and alleged neglect by the Central government. He emphasised that the LDF is seeking a third term in the upcoming Assembly election to complete the work they have laid for a 'New Kerala'. Vijayan also highlighted the revival of traditional industries, including the cashew, coir, and handloom sectors, which were facing a severe crisis before 2016. He stated that most of the borrowing is used for development-oriented investments that will generate future income. He also accused the Central Government of causing a revenue loss of nearly 2.5 lakh crore over the past five years.
