US military destroys 2 boats in Pacific, 5 killed in drug smuggling operation

The US military has destroyed two boats accused of smuggling drugs in the eastern Pacific Ocean, killing five people and leaving one survivor. This comes as the Trump administration continues its campaign against alleged traffickers in Latin America, while preparing a naval blockade of Iranian ports. The military has killed at least 168 people in boat strikes since early September. Critics have questioned the legality of the strikes, as fentanyl typically trafficked to the U.S. from Mexico, where it is produced with chemicals imported from China and India.
