The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) plans to award a no-bid contract to run Camp East Montana, the country's largest immigration detention center, to Chantilly, Virginia-based Amentum Services Inc. This comes after one detainee was killed and two others have died at the facility. The new contract will replace the $1.2 billion contract given to Acquisition Logistics, a government contractor hired for $1 million in July to build and operate the facility at Fort Bliss U.S. Army base in El Paso, Texas. The facility, which housed almost 3,000 immigrants as of mid-February, was quickly erected to support President Donald Trump's mass deportation strategy. Three detainees had died while in custody at Camp East Montage, including one from Cuba, and two from Nicaragua. The agency is reviewing the facility and the contract.
